Automatic Vacuum Cleaner Robot Project

The idea is inspired by the famous vacuum cleaner robot roomba which is shown in the image below.

Our project was inspired by an existing robotic vacuum cleaner the roomba. At this stage of the project the hardware installed is only the one needed for obstacle avoidance the mechanical platform on which the hardware lies is a circle of wood with a diameter of 25 cm with a hole in the middle where the vacuum cleaner fan is attached. The robotic system follows a zigzag path to cover entire room. Here we propose an automated vaccum cleaner robotic system that allows for automatic cleaning of a particular area or room by covering the area using border analysis.

The idea of a designing and building a device that can perform the same functions as the existing market brands on a budget of 50 was a challenge that we wanted to take on. The system uses ultrasonic sensors for boundary sensing and operates accordingly in order to cover entire room. This robot is simple four wheeled vacuum cleaner which could smartly avoid obstacles and vacuum the floor at the same time. This progress report describes the early stages of the development of a vacuum cleaner robot prototype both on hardware and software point of view.
